This is another beautiful story on the Animal Rescue Site about a dog and the woman who rescued her. It took a year for this woman to be able to pet her. A year. She was patient and let Jazzy set the pace.
Patience is the key to many behaviors owners regard as problems with their pets.

Trimming a Dog’s Nails
This video is an excellent example on how to get your dog to choose to participate in nail trimming. She uses no force or coersion.
